This, and part 2... were really conceived as one piece. I wanted to experiment with an Orchestral introduction, and convey a sledgehammer like 'wake up call' musically into the main body of the track.
Along with a love of simple hard hitting guitar riffs I also wanted to incorporate some hard hitting brass / guitar riffing, and Zappa-esque melodic exploration..I really heard it as a tapestry... sort of in one moment... the rest was simply scrabbling around trying to translate this one clear vision into reality..... I really lost track (no pun) of how long this piece took me to write and record... and I have to bow humbly in respect for the incredible drum performance that Tim Reyland managed to come up with for this track (both parts)... he was basically given regimented and documented, unwavering marching orders for every single bar... and my god... he delivered... and I am humbled :)
